Together with our partners LaserJob GmbH, LUNOVU GmbH, OptiY GmbH and the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology (ILT), we resolutely oppose the microplastic vicious circle with the SimConDrill research project. The idea: a filter that uses laser-drilled holes to efficiently filter out particles as small as 10 micrometers, even with large amounts of water. The starting point of the research project is our patented Klass cyclone filter which is equipped with special metal foils that has extremely precisely been drilled with innovative laser technology. With pore diameters of less than a hundredth of a millimeter, the throughput of the filter should be able to cope with the large quantities of water in the
sewage treatment plant and should function robustly.
This innovative vision opens up a wide range of possible uses. Because although the filter module is primarily developed and tested for sewage treatment plants, mobile applications in sewer rinsing vehicles or even modifications for private households are conceivable. The purification of ballast water also offers great potential. Therefore, SimConDrill is a unique research project which is not only funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), but was also nominated in the category ‘Innovation’ at the Green Awards 2020.
